Pattern Requirements:

  • Fabric: I like to use mid weight cottons such as cotton/linen blends, cotton duck or similar. They tend to hold form and wrinkle less than light weight cottons in this bag. If you choose different fabrics for the base of your bag and handles you will need less body fabric.
    • 60” (150cm) length exterior body fabric x 54” (138cm) Wide
    • 60” (150cm) length lining body fabric x 54” (138cm) Wide
  • Interfacing:
    • Foam Interfacing: 40” (100cm) Length x 45” (115cm) Wide
*If your sewing machine has issues handling thick layers, use fusible fleece in place of foam. Your bag will have a slightly softer finish but it is much easier for machines to manage.
    • Mid weight woven interfacing: 80” (200cm) Length x 45” (115cm) Wide
  • Zippers: #5 (Handbag) zippers.
    • 26” (66cm) double pull for top closure
    • 10” (25cm) (zipper pocket)
  • Pre-Made Piping (Optional): 160” (400cm) length x 0.12” (3mm) (Optional)
  • Pockets: Large slip pockets, choose from 2 options, or mix and match; (you can add as many pockets as you like). To make 1 pocket you will require the following:
    • Fabric: 2 x 9” (23cm) Length x 22” (56cm) Wide
    • Mesh: 1 x 9” (23cm) Length x 22” (56cm) Wide
  • Bias Binding: 20” (50cm) Length
  • Cork/Leather/Vinyl if adding the overlay and strap connectors (optional):
    • 18” (46cm) Length x 44” (111cm) Wide
  • Hardware (Optional): You may like to an adjustable strap to your bag.
    • 2 x 1” (2.5cm) D, O or rectangle rings
    • 2 x 1” (2.5cm) Swivel clips
    • 1 x 1” (2.5cm) Strap Adjuster
    • Double Capped Rivets (Optional) for decoration
    • If adding your straps using the strap connectors you will also require 4 x 1” (2.5cm) D or rectangle rings
