For many years my husband was in the NAVY and his nickname was the Salty Sailor, spending months and months at sea can turn you a little ‘salty.’ The Salty Sailor Satchel is a bag with attitude, loads of pocket options to store all your loot while looking sharp. It is the perfect bag for carrying lots of gear. The large flap is great for featuring your favourite fabrics and can be customised with quilt blocks, embroidery or foundation paper piecing if you wish. The base overlay gives your bag strength and style and check out the custom pen pockets on the exterior side panels!You will never lose your pens in the bottom of your bag again!

Inside you will find a padded laptop sleeve pocket suitable for laptops or tablets 12” (33cm) or less in size. You can also add a 10” (25cm) zipper pocket,  raw storage pocket and key fob!  Suitable for work or weekend wear- get ready to make a statement with the  Salty Sailor Satchel!

Pattern Requirements:

  • Fabric: I like to use mid weight cottons such as cotton/linen blends, cotton duck or similar. They tend to hold form and wrinkle less than light weight cottons in this bag.
    • 40” (100cm) length exterior body fabric x 54” (138cm) Wide
    • 40” (100cm) length lining body fabric x 54” (138cm) Wide
  • Cork/Mid weight leather: (base of bag, raw pocket & strap connectors) 25” (64cm)
  • Interfacing:
    • Fusible fleece: 40” (100cm) Length x 45” (115cm) Wide
      You can substitute fusible fleece for foam if you would like a firmer finish.
    • Mid weight woven interfacing: 80” (200cm) Length x 45” (115cm) Wide
  • Webbing: 20” (50cm) Length x 1” (2.5cm) Wide
  • Pre-Made Piping (optional): 40” (100cm) length x 0.12” (3mm)
  • Zippers: #5 (Handbag) zippers – 1 x 12” (30cm) for zip pocket
  • Hardware:
    • 2 x 1.5” (4cm) swivel clips 2 x 1.5” (4cm) D Rings (or O Rings)
    • 1 x 1.5” (4cm) slider (strap adjuster) 1 x magnetic snap
    • Fray Stoppa (or similar product)
